Grade Calculator
Work out a weighted course grade from your assignments and tests, or the grade you need on the final to reach a target.
Change the values and press Calculate to work out your own figures.
Weighted grade
Enter each grade and its weight; weights needn't add up to 100.
Show the working
- Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ weight
- = 8,250 ÷ 100 = 82.5%
Grade needed on the final
Enter your current grade, the grade you want and how much the final counts.
Show the working
- needed = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w
- = (85% − 88% × 0.6) ÷ 0.4
How to use it
Enter each grade and its weight; weights needn't add up to 100. Enter your current grade, the grade you want and how much the final counts.
Grades can be letters (A+ to F, P or NP for pass/no pass) or percentages (0 to 100). Show the working gives the formula with your numbers.
Key facts
grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ weight needed = (wanted − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w
Weights
Weights can be percentages that add to 100 or any numbers (points); the grade is always divided by their total.
Questions
How do I weight grades?
Multiply each grade by its weight, add them and divide by the total weight.
What do I need on the final?
Use the second mode with your current grade, the target and the final's weight.
Formulas
grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ weight needed = (wanted − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w

Limitations
- Letter-grade points follow the common US 4.0 scale; schools differ, so check your own school's table.
- Percentage bands for letters are the common 97/93/90 … 60 cut-offs.
- Weighted GPAs add 0.5 for honors and 1 for AP, IB and college courses; some schools use other bonuses.
- At most 50 rows.
