1 MB = 1,000 kB

Show the working
  1. 1 MB = 1000 kB
  2. 1 × 1000 = 1000 kB

How to convert megabytes to kilobytes

1 MB = 1,000 kB, so multiply by 1,000 to go from megabytes to kilobytes. Going the other way, 1 kB = 0.001 MB.

kB = MB × 1,000
MB = kB × 0.001

Worked example:

1 MB = 1000 kB
5 × 1000 = 5000 kB

About the units

Megabytes (MB)
Megabytes, a metric unit. Decimal (SI) megabyte = 1000^2 bytes. Many operating systems label the binary mebibyte (MiB) as 'MB'. Definition: NIST: Prefixes for binary multiples (IEC 80000-13).
Kilobytes (kB)
Kilobytes, a metric unit. Decimal (SI) kilobyte = 1000^1 bytes. Many operating systems label the binary kibibyte (KiB) as 'kB'. Definition: NIST: Prefixes for binary multiples (IEC 80000-13).
