How unit conversion works
Every unit is a fixed multiple of a base unit (a foot is exactly 0.3048 meters). To convert, multiply by the factor from the first unit to the second; to go the other way, divide by it. Temperatures also shift their zero point, so they use a formula rather than a single factor.
