Capacitance Converter

Convert capacitance between farads, microfarads, nanofarads, picofarads and CGS units.

Change the values and press Calculate to work out your own figures.

Enter a capacitance, choose its unit and the unit you want. The answer is exact until it is shown, and the same value appears in every other unit.

About valueA number, fraction (3/8), mixed number (1 1/2), scientific notation (2.5e6) or a simple sum such as 2*3.
About toThe unit you want the answer in. Swap exchanges the two units.

How to use it

Type a capacitance, choose the unit it is in and the unit you want, then press Calculate. You can type decimals, fractions such as 3/8, mixed numbers such as 1 1/2, very large or small numbers such as 2.5e6, and simple sums such as 2*3. Swap exchanges the two units.

The answer is worked out with exact fractions and only rounded for display, to 12 significant figures. Below it you get the same value in every other unit on the list, and Show the working gives the factor that was used.

Key definitions

1 F = 1,000,000 µF
1 µF = 1,000 nF = 1,000,000 pF

Capacitor codes

Small capacitors are often marked with a three-digit code in picofarads: 104 means 10 followed by four zeros, 100,000 pF, which is 100 nF or 0.1 µF.

Questions

What is 104 on a capacitor?

100,000 picofarads, which is 100 nanofarads or 0.1 microfarads.

How many picofarads are in a nanofarad?

1,000.

Formulas

result = (value × f(from) + o(from) − o(to)) ÷ f(to)
