Frequency Converter

Convert frequency between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz, revolutions per minute, radians per second and degrees per second.

Change the values and press Calculate to work out your own figures.

Enter a frequency, choose its unit and the unit you want. The answer is exact until it is shown, and the same value appears in every other unit.

About valueA number, fraction (3/8), mixed number (1 1/2), scientific notation (2.5e6) or a simple sum such as 2*3.
About toThe unit you want the answer in. Swap exchanges the two units.

How to use it

Type a frequency, choose the unit it is in and the unit you want, then press Calculate. You can type decimals, fractions such as 3/8, mixed numbers such as 1 1/2, very large or small numbers such as 2.5e6, and simple sums such as 2*3. Swap exchanges the two units.

The answer is worked out with exact fractions and only rounded for display, to 12 significant figures. Below it you get the same value in every other unit on the list, and Show the working gives the factor that was used.

Key definitions

1 Hz = 1 cycle per second = 60 rpm
1 Hz = 2π rad/s = 360 °/s

Rotation as a frequency

A turning shaft has a frequency too: 3,000 revolutions per minute is 50 turns a second, 50 Hz. Physicists often use angular frequency in radians per second, which is 2π times the frequency in hertz.

Questions

How many rpm is 1 Hz?

60 rpm.

What is 1 GHz in MHz?

1,000 MHz.

Formulas

result = (value × f(from) + o(from) − o(to)) ÷ f(to)
