Days Between Dates Calculator
Count the days between two dates, with an option to include the end day, a years-months-days breakdown, weekday, weekend, holiday and business-day counts, and a mode that finds the date a number of calendar or business days away.
Days between two dates
Count the days from one date to another, with the total also shown in years, months and weeks, and the number of weekdays, weekend days and business days.
Date a number of days from a date
Find the date a number of days before or after a date, counting every day or business days only.
How the days are counted
The calculator counts calendar days from the start date up to the end date, the way most people count nights or deadlines: from Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. Tick "Include the end day" when both dates should count, for example the days of a hotel stay or an event, and one day is added.
- Choose the start and end dates. Both are filled in with today to begin with.
- Tick "Include the end day" if the last day should count.
- To count business days without public holidays, tick "Treat holidays as non-business days" and choose which holidays apply. You can add your own, such as a company day, by month and day.
- Read the total, the breakdown into years, months and days, and the weekday, weekend and business-day counts.
If the end date is before the start date, the calculator still gives a positive number of days and says the dates were reversed.
Years, months and days
A month is counted only when the day of the month is reached again. From 15 January 2024 to 20 March 2025 is 1 year, 2 months and 5 days. From 31 January to 29 February 2024 is 29 days, not a month, because 31 February doesn't exist; from 31 January to 1 March is 1 month and 1 day.
Business days and holidays
Business days are Monday to Friday. With holidays turned on, a holiday that falls on a weekday is taken off as well. When a holiday falls on a weekend, US federal employers give the Friday before (for a Saturday) or the Monday after (for a Sunday) instead, and the calculator does the same unless you choose to keep holidays on their dates. For example, from 1 to 10 July 2026 there are 7 weekdays; Independence Day is a Saturday, so Friday 3 July is the day off and there are 6 business days.
The holiday list follows the current US federal holidays, applied to every year, with Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 1986 and Juneteenth from 2021. The day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are optional extras.
Adding or subtracting days
The second calculator finds the date a number of days before or after a date. Counting business days, the start date itself is not counted and the answer is always a business day, the same way spreadsheet WORKDAY functions work: 1 business day after Friday 19 January 2024 is Monday 22 January.
Questions
Does the count include the start date?
The count runs from the start date up to the end date, so it covers the start date but not the end date. Tick "Include the end day" to count both, which adds one day.
Are leap years taken into account?
Yes. Every date uses the Gregorian calendar with its leap-year rules, so 28 February to 1 March is 2 days in 2024 and 2000 but 1 day in 2023 and 1900.
Can time zones or daylight saving change the result?
No. The calculator works with calendar dates only, with no time of day, so time zones and clock changes can't affect the count.

Limitations
- Dates are civil calendar dates without time of day or time zone; for elapsed hours across a DST change use the time duration calculator.
- The proleptic Gregorian calendar is applied to all years, including dates before a country's historical adoption of the Gregorian calendar (1582 onward, 1752 in Britain and its colonies).
- Weekends are fixed as Saturday and Sunday; other work-week patterns are not supported in this version.
- Holiday rules are the current US federal statute applied to every year, with only MLK Day (from 1986) and Juneteenth (from 2021) gated by start year; Monday-holiday dates before 1971 and one-off proclaimed closures are not modelled.
- Custom holidays recur on the same month/day each year; floating (nth-weekday) custom holidays and one-off dates are not supported in this version.
